Homeroom: Today your child will be coming home with a "Friday Check In". This assesses students on the two OG sounds and sight words from that week. Highlighted words are words that your student read correctly. This is just a way for me to check student progress throughout the week and reteach concepts that need revisited.

Math: Today your child will be coming home with a "Friday Target Practice". This assesses students on the skills that we have worked on this week. This helps me see where extra practice or reteaching may be needed for the following week. It also allows you to check your child's progress and see areas that may need a little extra practice at home.

What are the 7 habits?
These are the 7 Habits of Happy Kids. Carmel schools has adopted these as part of our social-emotional learning curriculum. This week, we learned about being proactive! Ask your student what it means to be proactive. :)

What type of reading is best for my child at the start of the year?
Any kind of reading! It may look different for each student. Any kind of print - digital, paper books, library books, picture books, comic books, easy reader books, leveled books, etc. Reading out loud is my favorite because they are able to hear the words, work on fluency and expression. Sometimes first graders "silent read" and it is more of a "pretend to read". ;)
