Questions From Back to School Night:
  • How often are report cards? Report cards are sent out at the end of each quarter (4 times a year)
  • What are the field trips this year? Usually first grade takes field trips to Conner Prairie and Booth Tarkington for a play.
  • Besides Math and Reading 20 minutes is there a homework that they will have every night? Or will that be sporadic as projects and other things emerge? Math home links will begin soon and students should be reading 20 minutes each night for the reading log. There are a few first grade projects that will be sent home this year but they are sporadic. The Fundations packet for unit 1 also has additional activities that you can work on at home with your student.
  • Do you have book recommendations for my student? Yes! I can link a blog that I wrote a few years ago with good recommendations for first grade series. The Scholastic website also has several articles to help students find series and often has suggestions such as "If you liked Magic Tree House... Try this..." CLICK HERE for my blog post!
  • Are the 93 sight words the list for the year? Those 93 trick words are for the whole year.
  •  What are the next steps or focus if a child knows all or most of the words on the tricky word list for the year from Fundations? If your child can read all of the Fundations trick words - they should now start practicing how to spell them.
  • Does the “Everyday Mathematics” book stay at home? If so, will you give recommendations on pages/units you’d like us to review? Yes, the EDM Home links book can stay at home. I will go over the homework with students each day as well as post it in the "Assignments" tab on Canvas.
  • If we submit a dismissal change online, is there any reason to email you as well? You don't have to email me if you change it in the dismissal manager but sometimes it helps students with the change if I know ahead of time.
  • Do you have an Amazon wish list for classroom needs that parents can help fulfill? Yes! You can find our classroom wish list HERE. I will update it as the year goes on.

Also... Thank you to the many families who have already donated to our classroom! We have received so many wonderful things from games to books!
